Next Level Fitness & Performance, located in Haymarket, has brought on Michael Minthorne as their new Director of Athlete Performance. Already known as the premier athlete training facility in the area, Next Level’s recently expanded Athlete Performance Center is elevating their program by bringing on Minthorne who has international coaching experience and has worked with high school, professional and Olympic athletes.
“We’re thrilled to have someone of Michael’s caliber; he’s got a reputation for pushing athletes to be the best that they can be,” says Colby Schreckengost, owner of Next Level.
Minthorne, who graduated from Marymount University, is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist certification and also holds several certifications from EXOS Human Performance including Performance Coach, Nutrition and Metabolic Pathway and XPS. He played collegiate soccer and has a passion for working with soccer players/teams. He worked for DC United as a First Team Assistant Coach and was Director of Strength & Conditioning with the National Cathedral School for 4 years. Following that he contracted with EXOS for various international positions: Performance Coach, Chinese Olympic Committee, Shanghai Research Institute for Sports Science; Aston Villa Football Club, English Premier League; and Clube do Regattas do Flamengo, Premier League in Brazil.
Asked about why he believes working with an athlete performance specialist is essential for aspiring and elite athletes, Minthorne mentions, “We’re at an age in competitive sports that performance training can’t be left to someone who doesn’t specialize in it. Just as you wouldn’t expect a performance trainer to teach you tactical and technical aspects of your sport, you shouldn’t expect a sports coach to properly coach you for strength and performance.”
He adds, “If an athlete is trying to gain the competitive edge, prevent injury, earn a spot on a team, or get more playing time, then it’s essential that the athlete make the time to work with a performance specialist. It can only make you a better, more marketable athlete.”
In addition to enhancing Next Level’s athlete programs, Minthorne hopes to grow Next Level’s team programs and help more athletes realize great results.
