Here are three “quick fixes” that can make a big difference in your weight!
1. Replace sugary drinks with water/fruit-infused water. Ditch the sodas, “sports” drinks, and other sugary drinks – they have absolutely zero nutritional value and are high in calories. It’s also been shown that sugary drinks, even diet drinks, contribute to obesity. Replace two sugary drinks with water and eliminate almost 500 calories a day! Even better, ditch the sugary drinks all together and instead drink water infused with your favorite fresh berries or citrus!
PLUS, proper hydration helps you feel fuller and helps to eliminate cravings. You should drink half your body weight in water every day! So, if you weigh 175, drink 87.5 ounces of water each day.
2. Replace sugary snacks with your favorite fruits. In fact, check all the processed foods you eat every day. They’re loaded with sugar – crackers, bread, spreads, etc.! Most fruit is relatively low-calorie, especially when compared with most snacks. If the candy machine at work is calling to you, look for a better choice. Most machines also dispense some sort of trail mix or mixed nuts. The best option is to bring healthy snacks from home so you don’t even think about that candy machine!
3. Replace drive thru or frozen meals with meals you make yourself. Break out that crock pot that’s been gathering dust, plan your meals for the week, and hit the grocery store on Sunday. Take a few hours to cut, chop and portion out what you need to make cooking quick and easy for the week. If you use your crock pot, your meal will be waiting for you when you get home. This will help you avoid the temptation to swing through the local fast food joint, and chances are you’ll have left overs for lunch the next day! Another great option is to use a meal service where ingredients are delivered to your door, all you have to do is follow the directions and cook.
