Cody’s Transformation Helped Him Realize a Dream!
Since Cody Ellis was 8, he wanted to attend a prestigious service academy, join the military and serve his country as a commissioned officer. Cody devoted himself to maintaining top grades, playing baseball, and being an active part of the student body throughout his school years. With each year that passed Ellis slowly gained weight and as his senior year approached, at 225 pounds, he knew he wouldn’t be able to pass the physical requirements the academies demanded.
We met Cody when he started taking our speed and agility training. “I had those applications looming, so I started working out even harder, but wasn’t seeing the my weight drop at all.” Cody realized something had to change, so he sat down with Next Level owner Colby Schreckengost. ““I could tell he wanted to learn and get better. We talked about his goals, and we also talked about his lifestyle,” said Schreckengost. “I liked him, and even hired him to work at our front desk because he is great with people. But, his nutrition was a big concern. He ate way too many subs, pasta, chips and sweets. I noticed he was training really hard, but not losing any weight, so I challenged him to be wheat free for 30 days.”
Ellis thought the idea of going wheat free for 30 days was probably a bit crazy, and maybe even impossible, but decided to give it a try. “I had support and encouragement from my parents and the Next Level staff, stuck it out, and to my surprise, lost 10 pounds in the first month!” Inspired by his quick success, Ellis decided to sign up for Next Level’s annual Fall Skinny Jeans Challenge, an 8-week program that helps adults kick-start their fitness and weight loss.
As a result of Cody’s dedication, he lost over 55 pounds, passed both the US Marine Corp and US Army physical fitness tests in winter 2012 and spring of 2013 and was appointed a National Army ROTC Scholarship for use at VMI. He is currently a freshman at VMI.
